Rescue of the Month
The Rescue Project is a 100% volunteer-run, 501(c)(3) nonprofit and Missouri state-licensed animal rescue serving some of Kansas City’s most underserved communities. Their work centers on community outreach and education, providing essential resources like food, flea and tick prevention, shelter supplies, and veterinary assistance, while also promoting responsible pet ownership through spay/neuter and vaccination efforts.
As a fully foster-based rescue, all animals in their care live in loving foster homes throughout the Kansas City metro area. With support from veterinary and behavioral partners, each animal receives individualized care and thoughtful adoption screening to ensure they’re truly ready for a forever home.
This month, Homebound Society is proud to support The Rescue Project as our Rescue of the Month.

Cap’n is literally “man’s best friend.” He bonds particularly well with men and has been waiting for a new dad since 2022. He is a 75-pound sweetheart who thrives on both adventure and cozy snuggles.

At just 3 years old, Junebug is the quintessential lab—intelligent, playful, and oh-so-social! She thrives in the company of her people and brings an infectious spirit to every moment. Her favorite companions? Her beloved squishmallows, who have always been there for her.

Penny has been waiting for a loving family her whole life. She’s a pint-sized bundle of fun who loves to play with people and other dogs. Penny would make a fantastic addition to any family without small kids.
